What this means:
The system has detected that your microphone is connected and accessible — but it could not hear enough sound during the check to confirm it’s working properly. This usually means that something is interfering with the clarity, volume, or consistency of the sound being picked up.
Common Problems and How to Fix Them
Problem: The microphone is too quiet
What’s going on: Your mic is technically active, but it’s not picking up a strong or continuous enough signal. This can happen if you’re speaking softly, far away, or if your mic volume is too low.
What to try:
- Move the microphone closer to your mouth.
- Speak clearly, at a normal volume, for a few seconds (not just a quick word or two).
- Clap your hands or blow gently on the microphone to generate sound.
- Check the volume settings on your device (see below).
Problem: The wrong microphone is selected
What’s going on: If you're using a headset or external mic, your device might still be using the built-in one by default.
What to try:
- Click the drop-down list in the system check and try a different mic
- If you have multiple devices connected, test each one until the bar responds to your voice
Test your mic online
Use this free tool to check if your microphone is working and what it sounds like:

You should see a response bar when you speak. If not, your mic setup may need adjustment.
Still having trouble?
If you've tried everything and the audibility check is still failing:
- Restart your computer
- Shut down any apps using your mic (like Teams, Zoom, Discord)
- Try reinstalling the TestReach app: https://download.testreach.com
